What is Readers Become Leaders?

Readers Become Leaders is the NCAA’s reading challenge for Fort Worth elementary schools, leading up to the 2027 NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championship at Dickies Arena. Every Pre-K through 5th grade class can take part. Schools compete within their division (North, Central, South, or Elevate), while the top classes compete across the whole city. Results are based on average minutes read per student, so a small school competes on even footing with a large one.

1

The librarian registers

The school librarian registers the whole school at once, listing every Pre-K through 5th grade class.

2

Students read

Students read anything they like, at school or at home, and track their minutes on a reading log.

3

Minutes are reported

The librarian reports each class’s minutes through the link we email. Students never log in.

4

A winner is crowned

Standings update weekly by division and for the top classes. The winner is announced April 14 at Dickies Arena.
