Honoring a Life of Service: Ellen Lampton Recognized with the National Service Honor

The National Service Honor was created to recognize individuals who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to serving others. Recently, that commitment was beautifully exemplified by Ellen Lampton, a dedicated volunteer in Perham, Minnesota, whose service was celebrated in a surprise recognition at Perham Living.

As reported by the Perham Focus, Ellen was going about her regular volunteer duties when colleagues and fellow community members gathered to honor her contributions. Tracy Brockpahler, Administrative Service Manager at Perham Living, presented Ellen with the National Service Honor, including a certificate and medal, along with a letter from Helper Helper founder Krista Clement recognizing her exceptional service.

“This award celebrates not only the time you have given, but the spirit in which you have served—one of generosity, leadership, and deep compassion,” the letter shared. “Your dedication reflects the call to be a force for good in your community.”

A Remarkable Commitment to Community

Since the fall of 2022, when volunteer tracking began through Helper Helper for Elevate, Perham Living, and Perham Health, Ellen has made an extraordinary impact:

  • 1,037 volunteer hours contributed

  • 295 volunteer commitments

  • 151 shifts at the Perham Living Gift Shop

  • Support at bake sales, holiday markets, bingo games, and numerous community events

These numbers represent far more than time logged—they reflect relationships built, moments of joy created, and consistent care shown to residents, visitors, and staff alike.

Mindi Larson, Program Manager for Elevate, highlighted how Ellen’s service supports the organization’s mission to help older adults remain social, active, and engaged within their community.

Service That Goes Beyond Recognition

While the National Service Honor is formally bestowed through Helper Helper, the recognition was shared on behalf of Perham Health, Perham Living, and Elevate, all of whom benefit from volunteers like Ellen.

Volunteers show up not for praise, but because they care. Whether greeting visitors, assisting residents, or supporting events, they bring warmth and humanity to every role they serve. Ellen’s dedication is a powerful reminder of the difference one person can make through consistent, compassionate service.

Celebrating Those Who Serve

The National Service Honor exists to shine a light on individuals who lead with heart and purpose. By recognizing volunteers like Ellen Lampton, we celebrate the values of civic responsibility, generosity, and service that strengthen communities everywhere.

Congratulations to Ellen on this well-deserved recognition—and thank you to all volunteers whose service continues to inspire and uplift those around them.
